CASE STUDY: CLAN TARTAN CENTRE

"The strength of the advertising produced for the Clan Tartan Centre lay in the arresting, informative, and always entertaining, way that Richard (Squirrell) described and promoted what was a highly involved and detailed subject matter. Both advertising campaign and leaflet attracted a great deal of favourable comment and raised the profile of our Clan Tartan Centres in Edinburgh, Inverness and Isle of Skye several notches." Malcolm Pringle, Managing Director, Clan Tartan Centre.

There can be no more daunting a task than to bring back the knowledge and heritage of the Scottish clans and their respective tartans - effectively thrown to the winds with the brutal act of the Highland Clearances.

The Clan Tartan Centre proved more than equal to the challenge and, when they were satisfied they had amassed more clan-related information than any similar centre, they sought someone to write a leaflet and a series of advertisements to tell the story of all they had achieved and were now able to offer.

The advertisements written by Richard Squirrell put over a lot of information with an easy touch; the headlines were unusual and striking, and credibility and presence was achieved with the use of a type face that put a fresh slant on the old.

      The role of
the leaflet was to focus on the Clan Tartan Centre's ability to establish any genuine link between a present-day surname and a particular clan and tartan from the past. An intriguing headline on the front cover "Have you got a clan to your name?" attracted people inside, where every little detail the Clan Tartan Centre had to offer them was clearly spelt out.
